About the District

Please visit the links to the left to learn more about the Upper Brushy Creek Water Control and Improvement District.

Upper Brushy Creek Water Control and Improvement District (the "District") is responsible for flood and erosion control within the Upper Brushy Creek watershed in the Brazos River Basin. It is the local sponsor of 23 dams scattered throughout the watershed in Williamson County, Texas. Most of the dams are located around the cities of Round Rock, Leander, Cedar Park and Hutto.

The District was originally a part of the Brushy Creek Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 of Williamson and Milam Counties, which was created in 1957. The original district served as the local sponsor for the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Soil Conservation Service's construction of 46 dams within the Brushy Creek Watershed. In November of 2001, voters in the original WCID approved splitting the original WCID into two separate districts. In May of 2002, voters in the newly formed Upper Brushy Creek WCID authorized an ad valorem tax of up to $0.02 per $100 of property valuation to annually fund a dam safety program for the District's 23 dams.
