Dam 12

Project Summary

Dam No. 12 is an earthen dam located in northwest Round Rock, Texas. The dam was originally designed by the Soil Conservation Service and constructed in 1955. Recent engineering studies determined the dam would be overtopped by the 50% PMF event. Designs were developed to raise the dam up two feet (in the lowest places) with compacted fill to withstand the 75% PMF. Other improvements to the dam include soil infill of rock rip rap on the downstream slope, a new concrete stilling basin for the service spillway, new flexible base access roads, a new slide gate for the service spillway intake structure, rock rip rap protection of the emergency spillway left dike, installation of early warning instrumentation, and miscellaneous site improvements (fencing, signs, survey benchmarks).
